Elocon based on Mometasone treatment

Elocon, or Mometasone, should you try it ?
In my case, if i use it more that two days in a row... i get itchy skin, but it helps really good, for now i prefer "ELOSALIC" about it soon...
So what is Mometasone ?

What is mometasone topical (Elocon Ointment)?
Mometasone is a topical (for the skin) steroid. It reduces the actions of chemicals in the body that cause inflammation, redness, and swelling.
Mometasone topical is used to treat the inflammation and itching caused by a number of skin conditions such as allergic reactions, eczema, and psoriasis.
Mometasone topical may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.

What are the possible side effects of mometasone topical (Elocon Ointment)?
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Stop using this medication and call your doctor at once if you have severe irritation of any treated skin, or if you show signs of absorbing mometasone topical through your skin, such as:
  • blurred vision, or seeing halos around lights;
  • mood changes;
  • sleep problems (insomnia);
  • weight gain, puffiness in your face; or
  • muscle weakness, feeling tired.
Less serious side effects may include:
  • mild skin rash, itching, burning, redness, or dryness;
  • thinning or softening of your skin;
  • skin rash or irritation around your mouth;
  • swollen hair follicles;
  • spider veins;
  • numbness or tingling;
  • changes in color of treated skin;
  • blisters, pimples, or crusting of treated skin; or
  • stretch marks.
This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Tell your doctor about any unusual or bothersome side effect. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.
Read the Elocon Ointment (mometasone furoate ointment) Side Effects Center for a complete guide to possible side effects

What is the most important information I should know about mometasone topical (Elocon Ointment)?

Use this medication exactly as directed on the label, or as it has been prescribed by your doctor. Do not use the medication in larger amounts or for longer than recommended. Topical steroid medicine can be absorbed through the skin, which may cause steroid side effects throughout the body.
Do not cover treated skin areas with a bandage or other covering unless your doctor has told you to. If you are treating the diaper area of a baby, do not use plastic pants or tight-fitting diapers. Covering the skin that is treated with mometasone topical can increase the amount of medicine your skin absorbs, which may lead to unwanted side effects. Follow your doctor's instructions.
Do not use this medication on a child without a doctor's advice. Children are more likely to absorb large amounts of a topical steroid through the skin. Steroid absorption in children may cause unwanted side effects, or a delay in growth with long-term use. Talk with your doctor if you think your child is not growing at a normal rate while using this medication over a long treatment period.
Contact your doctor if your condition does not improve within 2 weeks of using this medicine, or if you develop signs of a bacterial, fungal, or viral skin infection.

Methotrexate, heal skin - KILL Yourself

Vaizdo rezultatas pagal užklausą „methotrexate“

Good morning folks,

Today I want to talk about Methotrexate. It's medicament in our country which you have to use for some time before you can use "Biological" drugs....

Let's see what Drugs.Com speaks about it :

"Methotrexate interferes with the growth of certain cells of the body, especially cells that reproduce quickly, such as cancer cells, bone marrow cells, and skin cells.
Methotrexate is used to treat certain types of cancer of the breast, skin, head and neck, or lung. It is also used to treat severe psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis.........."

Bla, bla bla bla.... CANCER ? wtf. we have only little skin disease, why we have to use so strong drug ? That's not the worst part. I tried to find good list of side-effects online, but i see that it's not very easy, i found one list that i liked on Medline Plus page :

Methotrexate may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

  • dizziness
  • drowsiness
  • headache
  • swollen, tender gums
  • decreased appetite
  • reddened eyes
  • hair loss

Some side effects can be serious. If you experience any of these symptoms or those listed in the IMPORTANT WARNING section, call your doctor immediately:

  • blurred vision or sudden loss of vision
  • seizures
  • confusion
  • weakness or difficulty moving one or both sides of the body
  • loss of consciousness
But they didn't mentioned  that death is one of the side effects.

One guy speaks on patients forum about his fathers fatal death :

"Dear Methotrexate Gang,
Hi - I'm writing this post because my father has passed away from methotrexate toxicity in February. This cause of death has been officially confirmed. I'm in a state of shock and I really don't believe that the general public understand the severity or danger of this drug.
As I've read here many MTX patients have been on this drug for months if not years. My Dad was on this drug for only five days.
Here is some advice for everyone on this drug:
Please everyone always ask for a consumer information pamphlet and be aware of the side effects.
Even if you feel fine don't ignore any side effects
Hospitals don't check for MTX levels in the blood - if you find yourself in Hospital ask them to test the levels.
Be aware of leucovorin therapy ; known as 'rescue therapy' (this is administered if you have suspected MXT poisoning)
Always follow the directions from a rhumatoid arthritist specialist or dermatologist or oncologist - not a general practitioner."

So it's your decision to try it or not... My decision was not to try this fatal drug as psoriasis is not so bad at all, i do not want to live without hair, or be sick everyday.
For this time there's a lot of other biological treatments like Stelara, Simponi, Humira, Costenyx and newest one Taltz... i will speak about them later today, or maybe tomorrow.

So love yourself, psoriasis is not bad at all, you can live with it, it's better than death :)

Thank you for reading friends!

Kim Kardashian live's with it

Kardashian have psoriasis too..

Kim Kardashian took a break from photo shoots and celebrity engagements to visit her dermatologist on Sunday night's episode of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians." After finding red, flaky patches of skin on her legs, Dr. Harold Lancer diagnosed the reality star with psoriasis, an autoimmune disorder that causes rapid skin cell growth that can manifest itself as thick silvery scales and itchy dry red patches on the skin.
"People don't understand the pressure on me to look perfect," Kardashian said on the show. "When I gain a pound, it's in the headlines. Imagine what the tabloids would do to me if they saw all these spots?"

Lancer suggested that she "lead an easier, slower paced life."
"That's just not possible," she replied.
Catie Coman, director of communications for the National Psoriasis Foundation, empathized with the reality star.
"The population can often be very cruel because they think the disease is contagious or has to do with being dirty," said Coman, who noted that LeAnn Rimes also battled the condition. "Celebrities with psoriasis are under intense pressure, and stress is a trigger for psoriasis."
Most types of psoriasis go through cycles in which the condition flares up for a few weeks or months, then subsides for a period of time.
"Once you're diagnosed with it, you don't know how often or severe you're going to get it," said Dr. Lawrence Green, a Washington, D.C., dermatologist and member of the board of trustees at the National Psoriasis Foundation. "She can try different treatments and see how they keep the rash at bay. You just have to wait and see."
Kardashian is one of 7.5 million Americans who have the disorder, which can range from a mild skin rash to a debilitating condition. Experts say smoking, alcohol and high stress levels can contribute to outbreaks. Obesity, stress, viral and bacterial infections such as HIV and, most significantly, a family history, put a person at an increased risk of psoriasis. About 30 percent of psoriasis patients will be diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis, a chronic condition that causes pain and stiffness in the joints.
Kardashian's mother was diagnosed with psoriasis at the age of 30.
"I'd heard of it before because my mom has always had it, but she didn't have red flaky dots all over her," Kardashian told Life and Style Weekly.

Kardashian's publicist did not return requests for comment, but from watching the short clip of Kardashian at the doctor's, Green said her psoriasis patches could probably be treated with an ointment or excimer laser, a type of ultraviolet light that slows skin cell growth.
"Psoriasis comes in three different levels of severity, and it depends on the level of severity that dictates treatment," said Coman.
Creams and ointments can successfully treat mild to moderate psoriasis outbreaks, while injections, ultraviolet light lasers and oral medications are available for more serious outbreaks.
"People with psoriasis should know that they don't have to live with it," said Green. "It can be very well treated. They just have to take those first steps and go see a dermatologist."

Cheap Chinese treatment - Yiganerjing

According to a study published in the November issue of Archives of Dermatology, an effective treatment for plaque-type psoriasis can be found in traditional Chinese medicine. Yiganerjing by Yin-Ku Lin, M.D. (Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and Chang Gung University, Taoyuan, Taiwan) and colleagues found that an ointment based on the dark-blue, plant-based powder indigo naturalis can be used treat the skin condition.

No cure exists for the chronic skin disease known as psoriasis, but there are therapies that lead to remission of the condition. Lin and colleagues write that, "Traditional Chinese medicine is one of the most frequently chosen alternative therapies in China and Taiwan, and psoriasis has been treated for centuries with topical and oral herbal preparations." They add that, "Indigo naturalis is one of the Chinese herbal remedies that has been reported to exhibit potential antipsoriatic efficacy. However, long-term systemic use has been occasionally associated with irritation of the gastrointestinal tract and adverse hepatic [liver] effects."
Further studying the safety and efficacy of indigo naturalis, the researchers conducted a randomized trial with 42 patients suffering from treatment-resistant psoriasis. Between May 2004 and April 2005, participants enrolled in the study that required two ointment applications on their bodies: one was an indigo naturalis ointment applied to a psoriatic plaque on an arm, elbow, leg, or knee of one side of the body, and a second was a non-medicated ointment applied to a parallel plaque on the other side of their body. At the beginning of the study and after two, four, six, eight, ten, and twelve weeks, researchers assess the patients and photographed the skin plaques.

Lin and colleagues report that 12 weeks of treatment resulted in significant improvements in scaling, redness (erythema), and hardening (induration) for the plaques treated with the indigo naturalis ointment compared to the plaques treated with non-medicated ointment. "Weighting the sum of scaling, erythema and induration scores by the lesion area and comparing between the start and end of the study, the indigo naturalis ointment - treated lesions showed an 81 percent improvement, whereas the vehicle [non-medicated] ointment - treated lesions showed a 26 percent improvement," explain the researchers.
Thirty-four patients completed the study, and none experienced worsening psoriasis conditions in the areas that received the indigo naturalis ointment. In fact, 75% of these patients had complete or near complete clearings of the psoriasis in the treated areas. Although no patients experienced serious adverse effects, four patients reported some itching in the area of the indigo naturalis ointment that last for a few days at the beginning of treatment.
The authors conclude: "We present a randomized controlled trial showing the use of topical indigo naturalis ointment for the treatment of chronic plaque psoriasis to be both safe and effective. Future research for a more potent extraction from this crude herb that can provide better absorption and convenience would help improve patient compliance with the treatment regimen. However, much more research will be necessary to clarify the pharmacology of indigo naturalis."

LeAnn Rimes - Fame & Psoriasis. Sick celebrities

Over 7 million people deal with psoriasis, according to the National Psoriasis Foundation. Many people suffer more extreme symptoms vs. others. One of them is LeAnn Rimes.
Almost 3 years ago, Rimes went public with the secret she always kept during her rise to fame. She was a chronic sufferer of psoriasis. She was diagnosed with autoimmune disease when she was just 2 years old. Psoriasis is when skin cells grow too fast, resulting in thickened or scaly patches. Patches are commonly on the scalp, knees, elbows and torso. By the time Rimes was 6, she was getting these red, itchy patches all over her body. Sufferers know they often flake off, crack and bleed – making for some uncomfortable and embarrassing situations.
With the regimen of the right medication, diet and stress management, Rimes has been symptom-free for over 5 years. However, her struggle has not gone without its hurdles. Her psoriasis use to dampen her live performances.
"I would bleed onstage because my skin would crack. It was so horrible," she said.

To raise awareness, Rimes teamed up with the American Academy of Dermatology and the National Psoriasis Foundation to be a spokeswoman for the Stop hiding and start living with psoriasis campaign. Pharmaceutical company Abbott, maker of Humira, supported the campaign.  She has also lent her voice to other campaigns to help fight the stigma of the disease.
"Psoriasis definitely takes a physical and emotional toll. I've had to deal with people judging me," she said. A very hard pill to swallow from what appeared to be a very “put together” celeb. “I was hiding it for so long.”
The campaign wanted people with psoriasis to know that although it’s not curable, finding a great doctor and seeking out various therapies can allow one to lead an active and healthy life, symptom-free. The key is figuring out what works for you, as dermatologists don't always agree on treatments.
It's still unclear whether or not psoriasis is a genetic disorder. But Rimes got involved with this campaign to make sure of one thing: "I wanted...to educate the rest of the world that this is not contagious. You're not going to get psoriasis by standing too close to us. We're human."
